What Vegetables Could Grow in Iraq?
I am going to be deploying again and i want fresh veggies and fruits this time so i was thinking of growing them myself.
I like tomatos cucumbers watermelon strawberries and basically all sorts of fruits and vegetables.
My problem is that i dont know what is easy to grow in a desert enviroment. I know i could rig up a shade so they dont sit in the sun all day but basically i am clueless on this subject.
Can anyone help?

Why don’t you take those two vegetables we got in the white house (bush and cheney) over with you and plant them. Be safe. Come back alive…
Tomatoes! I Know There are many varities that can most likely thrive under theese conditions. I would sugget that you provide "some" shade but not a lot since they are full sun annuals. I would water a little more frquemtly but not too much. I would grow them in pots since they are easy to move and transport. And, as an added bonus, the plant will need a lot less watering. but i would say go for it! Starwberries I am unsure because it can be too hot. I forgot to mention that i would shdade them even though they are full sun. The dont usually set fruit with temps higher than 85 defress. I Hope this helps/
Melons and squashes/vine fruits(cucumbers/tomatos) work ideally with any desert environment. If you’re deploying again, do you remember what types of veggies they sold in the local markets. That might give you a clue as to what type of seeds to bring along.
Look at seed catalog and buy things for the hottest region. And just remember to water more often.
