Neither plant tolerates cold well. One good frost can do them in. I live in central Fla. and can grow tomatoes all winter. There are a few times I may need to wrap them in Christmas lights and cover them with sheets. You on the other hand are probably near the end of your growing season. If you have a warm porch with lots of sun try growing them in containers. The smaller varieties will probably do better.
