Yes by all means….its worth growing your own vegetables!!
Starting with seeds are really easy! I start my little seeds every March in my kitchen window(faces south). If you buy seed packs, and you have some left over you can keep them for next year by: closing the packet with a paper clip, and putting them in a plastic bag and put them in the freezer, they will keep for next time in planting. * just an idea for ya*
If you eat eggs, you can rinse out your egg shells and save them,(let them dry out, and save them) they make great little containers for starting seeds, the egg shell gives nutrients to your seeds, and when you get ready to plant just place the egg shell and seads in the ground or in another pot… I do this with flower seeds too…excellent way to start the little seeds of any kind really!
Also..have you thought about doing Container Gardening..that is a really good way to have veggies, too. Especially if your hurting for space for a garden!! or if you live in an appartment and you have a balcony.
Good luck and Happy Gardening : ) *hope this helps you*
then u don’t have 2 waste money in stores
If you are looking to save money it is a toss up. If you are looking for the best food then grow your own. If this is your first year only start with a few item. Like tomatoes and cucumber’s that do not take a lot of work.
Just start small and enjoy!
A matter of personal choice. I don’t. I only plan 4-8 plants of a variety, except for tomatoes. I plant 4 varieties, 4 plants per.
I don’t have an adequate sunny window, and my house is 62 degrees. Easier for me to go buy the plants.
Some things are worth growing, others aren’t. For example, the space and time it takes to grow corn. Same with carrots…. you can buy a 10 lb bag of carrots for $1.99, or you can buy a packet of seeds for $1.99, spend the entire summer watering them, keeping pests away, and waiting for them to grow and maybe you would get 15 pounds of carrots instead….. not really worth it.
Other things like lettuce could well be worth it. If you got a packet of lettuce seeds and planted them at different intervals about a week apart, you would always have enough lettuce on hand to make a nice salad.
Let one plant go to seed and collect hundreds of seeds and you’d never have to buy more. You’re only paying for the water and soil, and letting it take up space.
Your first few years of gardening will be the most expensive i.e. tools, fence etc. etc.
After a year or two, It can pay off. Let me put it to you this way, last year i planted about 30 pepper plants which cost me about 8 bucks for transplants, and i know i harvested at least 80-100 # of fruit. I have some frozen for anytime I need them. How much would 90# of peppers cost in the store? Let’s see at about $2.00 a pound = $180.00 worth of product so it can be worth it.
I grow a lot from seeds, My peppers were left out in the sun while I was at work so I had to buy transplants(they kinda burned).Still you can say I made out!

It is worth it. Can’t beat fresh veggies. Love, honey
Well, it is worth it since seeds are less expensive than plants from a garden center. Even if you don’t use all the seeds, you will still get more plants for your money. You just have to consider: Do you want to pay $2 for seed and get all the plants you want or $2 for a single plant from the garden store.
Seeds definitely offer more bang for you buck.
Good Luck
If you enjoy gardening and want different varieties than can be found in stores, yes. Also, I think they do taste better than store bought ones.
Every time I try to grow seeds indoors the little plants damp off and die. If you have the patience and the space you could give it a shot. Seeds are so much cheaper than the plants. If it doesn’t work out for you there would still be time to buy the plants. I recommend reading about the correct procedure on growing your particular seeds.
You can’t beat the flavor of home grown & vine ripen vegetables. Nothing like a warm cherry tomato picked & eaten right off the vine. For me & my family it ‘s all about the taste, quality and lack of pesticides in our diet with home grown vegetables!
