Can I Plant Grass Over Landscaping Cloth?
I have a horrible puncturevine problem in my backyard. I am planning to roundup the entire yard. Was wondering if it’s possible to lay down the landscaping/weed cloth and layer several inches of soil over that and successfully grow grass?

I wouldn’t recommend it. The roots would have a difficult time penetrating down past the fabric, and unless you plan on putting down at least 4"-6" of top soil (more is better), your grass roots would be so shallow that they would be susceptible to extreme heat and dry spells.
Puncture weeds are annuals. Apply a good pre-emergent herbicide to prevent them from sprouting, and diligently pull any that are growing before they can seed. Some of the seeds have already been spread into your yard and may lie dormant in the soil for several years. The best way to get rid of them, is to not give them an invitation to grow.
These weeds can be managed by maintaining a healthy, dense lawn. These weeds do not germinate well in a healthy lawn but appear in thin areas of the grass or around the perimeter adjacent to driveways and sidewalks. Proper mowing, watering, and fertilizing will reduce the problems with these weeds.
